1000 Parker Street Terminal - Graffiti - April 20, 2009.

This bit of graffiti located on the outside walls of the loading bay area especially built to load boxcars with mattresses and bed frames back in the early days of Restmore Manufacturing Company. The loading bay is just a smidgen wider than standard boxcar width which makes the narrow cove very cozy and private. This is just right for graffiti artists who wish to spend a bit of time to spruce up some air brush paintings before moving onto another location.

1000 Parker Street was built in 1914 to house the Restmore Manufacturing Company which made feather mattresses, iron beds and other upholstery.

One of the original signs is till visible today on the wet side of the building. Restmore moved on to other premises in 1957. In 1958 the site was renovated and became the Parker Building Offices. Through the years a variety of activities and businesses were sited here: Vancouver Revolver and Rifle Club, Fuller Brush, Salada-Shiriff and storage for Woodwards, to name a few. In 1974, the current owners, the Beedie Group, purchased the building and continued to rent to a variety of tenants.

In the early 80's the third and fourth floors were opened up and the first artists arrived. Today 1000 Parker Street provides studio space for over 80 artists.

This bit of history was researched and written by Robin Ripley, a Parker Street artist on the third floor.

New tenants include: Swartz Enterprises, Sipco Industrial Products, Hamilton and Spill MFG (1974 Ltd), D&D Door Closure, G&B Glass, All World Shipping Ltd, Storch Sales, Bli-Kor MFG Ltd, Borke Design, Roydon, Play-fill, 7 Sisters Gallery, Wild Rose, Ingraphic Detail, Robnson Studio Gallery, Alternate Woodworkers, Braidner Survival Kits and RSR Design.
