Pacific Northwest - BC Canada
Birds

Perched in a Cottonwood tree overlooking Jericho Pond, this Northern Goshawk
is in perfect position to keep a hawkish eye on the Jericho Rabbits (wild
and nibbling grassy treats near the Jericho Sailing Center) and the wildlife
at Jericho Pond. According to the local birdwatchers, this particular Hawk
has been hanging out for the past month or so in the Jericho area. The Northern
Goshawk is a large, robust hawk with a log tail and rounded wings. The crown
of its head and cheek is blackish in color, with a broad white stripe over
the eye. The underparts are gray with fine bar lines across the belly and
has irregular color bands on the tail. It is marked somewhat like the Cooper's
Hawk, except with gray rather than rusty belly. This hawk is unusual for
this area and is usually found in coniferous and deciduous forest especially
in the mountainous regions of the Pacific Northwest.
