Photos - From Cassiar at Adanac in East Vancouver
looking at colorful blossoms of the Magnolia trees budding in the front
yard of the former Provincial Industrial Home For Girls located at
868 Cassiar street. This fine looking building with its archaded porch, curvilinear
parapets, and molded window trim, it is one of Vancouver's most distinguished
examples of the Mission Revival Style. The conversion to 12 residential units
by United Properties Ltd., was based on a design by McGinn Engineering and
Preservation Ltd. and involved the replacement of the central cupola. In addition,
new windows were installed based on the original design. The development also
includes seven new buildings, designed by H.R. Hatch Architect Ltd. to be
compatible with the original structure.
