The pelton wheel turbine is a tangential flow impulse turbine,
water flows along the tangent to the path of the runner. Nozzles direct
forceful streams of water against a series of spoon-shaped buckets mounted
around the edge of a wheel. Each bucket reverses the flow of water, leaving
it with diminished energy. The resulting impulse spins the turbine. The
buckets are mounted in pairs, to keep the forces on the wheel balanced,
as well as to ensure smooth, efficient momentum transfer of the fluid jet
to the wheel. The Pelton wheel is most efficient in high head applications.
Since water is not a compressible fluid, almost all of the available energy
is extracted in the first stage of the turbine. Therefore, Pelton wheels
have only one wheel, unlike turbines that operate with compressible fluids.
Photos - Frames left and right: Perched upon a cement foundation is a Pelton Water Wheel that was once used in Sandon's Generation Station with Silversmith Power and Light Corporation. A Pelton wheel, also called a Pelton turbine, is one of the most efficient types of water turbines. It is an impulse machine, meaning that it uses Newton's second law to extract energy from a jet of fluid.

Photos - Frames left and right: Partially wrapped in plastic is Brill Trolley Coach #459 - Manufactured in 1946 by Canadian Car an Foundry in Fort William, Ontario (Serial # CCB-T-44-46-5240) Model T-44. This bus operated in Calgary from 1948 until taken out of service in 1975. It is one of two surviving Brill Buses that once numbered 76 in Calgary's fleet (numbers 400 to 476). Number 422 was the last to be taken out of service. This bus was taken to Vancouver for storage to be restored as part of a BC Transit museum, but was sold to Andrew Wright in July 2001 and moved to Sandon. Vancouver's Transit system early trolley used T-48s which were more desirable.

This bus was rescued in July 2001 by Andrew Wright of Sandon.
