Photos - Continuing with an exploration of
Historic Sandon's many outside displays, this is a 1939 Pull Grader (Caterpillar
15). Caterpillar purchased the Russell Grader Co in Dec 1928, and all the
Russell graders were then badged and known as Caterpillar pull graders.
Caterpillar continued the Russell grader line for a couple of years, but then
produced a new line of pull graders, from around early 1930, that were extensively
redesigned and modernized over the Russell design.
The original steel wheels were changed to rubber tires in 1955.

A wide view of the 1939 Pull Grader as it sits beside Carpenter Creek.
This interesting stuff is vintage wooden pipe wrapped with steel strapping. This is what is left of the Silversmith Powerhouse intake pipes. These wood-stave pipes are 18-inches diameter and laid out to cover a distance of over two miles (3.2 Km) to the intakes.
