Pacific Northwest - BC Canada
Birds

This is a Eurasian stray that resembles the Ring-necked Duck which is common in the Pacific Northwest - This male differs in color slightly from the ring-neck in the beak and the tuft of feathers on his hood. The ring-neck has a white ring near the beak tip, and the ring-neck has gray sides while the Tufted duck has white sides. The Tufted Duck is a regular but uncommon migrant to the Aleutians in winter and rare in Alaska, but is a casual vagrant to southern coastal BC to coastal California.
Aythya Fuligula - Tufted Duck, male - visually seems out of place near the Widgeons and Mallards on Lost Lagoon, but isn't fearful of people and eagerly awaited any handouts from local visitors just the same as our local ducks do. This duck got close enough for me to almost fill the frame while I had a medium telephoto attached. Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC - March 16, 2009.
