Hotel Balmoral at 169 East Hastings street - East Vancouver BC - Photographed December 1986

December 1986 On Assignment for the BC Hotelman's Association to capture the colorful neon signs that make up the Vancouver Hotel circuit.

The Hotel Balmoral at 159 East Hastings is a class 'C' heritage building (built before the first World War) which represents those buildings that contribute to the historic character of an area or streetscape, usually found in groupings of more than one building but may also be of individual importance. The Balmoral is in sad shape nowadays to be sure - I photographed this hotel in December last year and all of the lights except for the "L" in Balmoral had either broken or worn out. The hotel restaurant is in danger of being closed due to poor maintenance (Pending).

The Historic Balmoral Hotel located on historic East Hastings Street has been a Vancouver icon for many years. Located in the heart of Vancouver close to Vancouver's historic Chinatown.
