Brandt's Creek sunset June 28th - assembled art work... During my time visiting Tuesday evening, I enjoyed watching an Osprey dive into the water to retrieve a fish that ventured too close to the surface, a Blue Heron wading in the shallows catching at least four small fish, and an industrious Beaver poking around the shoreline looking for branches to nibble on.
Memories of Kelowna Tanker 89 a Lockheed L-188A Electra flys overhead after dropping red fire retardant on a brush fire. The L-188 was produced from 1957 to 1961 with a total of 170 units made. The aircraft is part of Airspray.
Seaplane C-GYVB getting ready for an Okanagan Lake tour - The aerial tour I would have enjoyed, but never had the opportunity to do.
Brandt's Creek Estuary - A connection with childhood
when I would visit the old CPR dock that was once a big part
of this area. Long before the Rotary Creek Park there was
a CPR Dock and ship building berth: As a result of the agricultural
success in the Okanagan area, modes of transportation for
taking fruit and vegetables became a necessity. It was the
CPR Railway Wharves, where the fruit was loaded onto steamers
and barges and moved down the lake to connect with the train
en route to many final destinations such as the UK, The Coast
and the Prairies. The original Wharf was built on this site
in the mid 1930s and was used until 1972. There were over
20 landings and docks around the Okanagan Lake that were all
closed as road access improved.
