Caltha Palustris ssp. asarifolia: Buttercup family, March Marigold, Kingcap, water cowsip

These blossom and bark photos were made in Mid-April, 2003 in Vancouver.

This edible plant does contain a toxic element: helleborin, which has to be cooked out of the plant before eating. Photographed near Granville Island in Vancouver, this plant is said to be a "northern Plant" usually found in Alaska and the Yukon around marches and bogs.

The leaves and buds are eaten when boiled. And/or fried in butter, (thoroughly) also, the roots can be peeled and eaten when cooked.
