Carex Macrocephala: Large-Headed Sedge

This Sedge likes sandy beaches, dunes and rocky shores, and occur as tufts connected by long rhizomes that creep in a somewhat straight line. These plants help keep the sandy shores from eroding.

Photographed at the Fraser River delta near Wreck beach in Vancouver, end of May, 2003.
