Birds

Botanical Glossary - Home

Sandhill Cranes are very large, aggressive birds standing 40" to 48" tall, with a wing spread of 6 to 7 feet. Note the long neck rusty feathers and bald red crown (also the rusty body feathers, which are summer plumage). In Reifel Sanctuary, these birds are used to people so are very approachable, but the long necks armed with long, sharp beaks can give a nasty peck when the Cranes feel threatened.
