Motorcyle Pup - East Vancouver BC
Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Party: at the Trev Deeley Motorcycle Dealership 1875 Boundary Road in East Vancouver - Photographed July 26, 2008.
Coco loves to ride. Some dogs will go fetch their leash for a walk, or the car keys for a ride in the auto, but Coco brings her riding glasses for a spin on the Harley. Coco, a Yorkshire Poodle cross has been riding on the master's 2007 Screaming Eagle Harley since the motorcycle and Coco were newbies. The Harley has a 110 Cubic Inch engine with some customized features such as oversize roll bars 6 gallon tanks and 'Sleeper Pipes' which cuts down on the loud engine nose so typical of Harley-Davidson Motor Bikes.
1903 - the year William Harley and Arthur Davidson, with the help of Davidson's brothers William and Arthur develop, built and sell the first Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. To put it into context Eliot Ness were born the same year, as were Bing Crosby and Bob Hope (who passed away at age 100 years in 2003).
Today, 105 years later it's time to celebrate again the wonderful and fascinating history of a company still sustaining the chord it struck in the hearts of motoring enthusiasts around the world. In Vancouver these celebrations are happening on Saturday, July 26. Festivities begin at 11:00am and run through until 3:00pm. Enjoy cake, contests, crowds, live rockabilly music courtesy of Dick Nash and the shenanigans of the day's MC, Joonyer from JACK.
There will be vintage bikes on display and the Deeley Motorcycle Exhibition will be open as it is 7 days a week. There will also be a few all new 2009 Harley-Davidson® motorcycles on display.
Everyone is welcome to watch one of 3 showings of the remarkable new film "City Reflections" (seating is limited to 105 per showing). The film has edited together long-lost footage taken from the front platform of a streetcar as it rolled through the streets of Vancouver in 1907. You do not want to miss this show as it runs in the comfort of the Deeley Conference Center main conference room.
At 1:05pm precisely everyone who purchased a 105th Anniversary
Harley-Davidson® motorcycle is welcome to gather with their bikes for
a picture to commemorate the year.
In 1995 Trev was inducted into the Canadian Motor Sport Hall of Fame and in 1997 became the first Canadian recipient of the American Motorcycle Association prestigious Dudley Perkins Award - bestowed annually to one individual.
Hero, mentor, friend, competitor, enthusiast, advisor, business mogul, philanthropist - Trev was many things to many people, and his influence was far reaching. Right up until the day he died, Trev Deeley remained a force for change at Harley-Davidson.
During the late 1950's, 60's, and 70's, Trev Deeley concentrated on the business of Motorcycles. In 1957, he was appointed the first Honda motorcycle distributor in the English speaking world and later went on to also distribute Yamaha motorcycles and snowmobiles. In 1973, Trev founded Fred Deeley Imports, Harley-Davidson distributors for Canada, with his partner Don James, and together they developed the most respected dealer network in the country. From 1986 to 1991, Trev served on the board of directors at Harley-Davidson Inc. He was the first non-American to be invited to do so.
To say that Trev loved motorcycles would be a great understatement. He raced, rode, repaired, collected, customized, sold, distributed, and talked about motorcycles - all of the time.
