Lance Tanner at the Highlands Rest home - 400 Snowsell, Kelowna BC - July 11, 2010.

The 90 year plateau isn't for the feint of heart - with all of the aches and pains of this age its nice to know that you can still enjoy yourself. Lance has friends and family to help him celebrate the big day in Highland's dining room. On the left are Al Hume and Judy Casorso, long time friends whose families are pioneers who helped shape Kelowna. Lance Tanner was a part of the 33 Canadian Brigade Group, volunteering to fight for his country in 1939, serving until the end of the War. Lance also spent over 35 years with Kelowna Post Office and Pioneered underwater scuba diving in the Okanagan, working with Search and Rescue and teaching others to scuba dive for more than 50 years. Lance now spends much of his retirement time hard rock carving and jewelry making.

Al Hume's father came to Kelowna from Ontario in 1911 and purchased land in the Glenmore district where he developed an orchard. He Married Miss Edna Noyes of Naramata in 1917. Mr. Hume was a school trustee for more than 20 years, part of which period he was chairman of School District No. 23. He was a J.P. and prominent in civic affairs. For 22 years he was a member of the Okanagan Regional Library Board. Surviving are his wife Edna and two sons, George Clarence and John Robert, Glenmore; two daughters, Frances (Mrs. Leo B. Konapski) of Port Angeles, Washington and Mildred (Mrs. James B. Robertson) or Seattle; seven grand children and one great-grandchild.

Judy Casorso's Grandfather John Casorso, pre-empted land east of Mission Creek in 1884. At that time the family was living at the Oblate Mission where both John and his wife were employed. The Casorso Ranch is a viable farm operation that has not changed ownership over the years of its work life with some of the original buildings still in use today. Still standing, but not in use is the log house built between 1884 and 1889. The older section, built of round logs is two storey but smaller than its squared log addition.
