Photos - Frames left and right: Another interesting thing to watch for if you are interested in photographing doors in Oaxaca City, are the door knockers and hinges - some of them can get really ornate, using brass (right) and cast iron (left).

Center frame: A native woman crosses the street with her items to take to the market or sell in the streets. If I knew enough about the clothing styles of the native villagers, I could tell from what village this lady is from by the style of clothes. It is customary for native women to wear their village clothing to market place - this identifies them to a particular area when at the market place.

Photos - The doors are built by hand, which are needed to be solid and thick enough to withstand social engineering attacks and every day physical abuse. Some are made with cast iron (second row frame left and bottom row frame right), wrought iron (bottom row frame left), and brass cast (frame right middle row). Middle row center frame shows a well made security window that can be opened from the inside to give a protected view of the street on the outside. The door in bottom row center photo is thick sheet steel with wrought iron reinforcement - it is a northern face so it doesn't get to hot during the day time.
