Photos - L-R - West Jet Domestic Flight Entrance interactive sheet metal sculpture depicting historic planes and people in the aeronautics industry: Grant McConachie founded United Air Transport in 1933. The name of the company was later changed to Yukon Southern Air Transport and in 1939 McConachie pioneered the first scheduled airmail and passenger service between Edmonton and Whitehorse. He also acquired three of only eleven Barkley-Grow T8Ps ever built. In 1947, he was named President of Canadian Pacific Airlines, and his daring initiatives resulted in the uniting of Canada and Asia by Long-range aircraft.

The Carrousel device with a large wind-up key that is popular with children of all ages. Just wind the key and watch the tower revolve while the sheet metal sculptured planes fly.

The sheet metal sculpt you see here is a stylized version of the Douglas DC 3 which is part of two large interactive sculptures depicting historical planes and people to do with Calgary's colorful aeronautics background. "In 1957, ten years after qualifying for her commercial pilot's license, Moretta (Molly) Fenton Beall Reilly was the first Canadian Woman to earn the title of captain. In 1959, Peter Bawden Drilling Services of Calgary, Alberta, hired Molly Reilly as the CO-captain of a DC-3 operating in Canada's North. In this position she became the first to pilot the aircraft in extensive periods of darkness and extreme weather conditions, often without radio communications and navigation aids. Throughout her aviation career, Molly Reilly completed over 10,000 hours as pilot-in-command.

With the Calgary, Juno awards tour out of the way, I took a trip over to the Sunshine Coast via our local ferry boats aboard the Queen of Surrey departing Horseshoe Bay to Langdale.
