Passiflora:
Passion flower.
Passiflora Cinnabarina (The cinnabar red passion flower shown in plates 174 and 175) From S.E. Australia. Showy red 2.5" flowers. Best kept at above 40º F. and humid conditions or in a greenhouse. Use a high potash fertilizer, avoid too much nitrogen. Helps to sprinkle the foliage during hot weather. Can get to 35 feet on a slim vine. Requires high heat to germinate.
The Passiflora are related to the Datura which are considered to be poisonous
by some, narcotic by others. Be careful with this plant. Yummy looking fruit
is grown by the Passiflora (Plate 173), but I have not tried to eat it, nor
have I noticed any of the natives in San Agustin eat it.
