Plumeria Rubra:
Temple tree, Frangipani Tree, West Indian Jasmine.
This widely cultivated, deciduous large shrub or small tree, with its broadly rounded canopy, can grow to a height of 8 m. It is distinguished by its pale pink to crimson flowers, which are used extensively for decoration. Plumeria Rubra var. acutifolia is usually seen more commonly than the species and features creamy white flowers, sometime flushed pink, with a deep yellow center. 'Golden Kiss' has large heads of golden-yellow flowers with a soft flush of apricot along the lower edge of each petal.
The sap from Plumeria Rubra is known to cause dermatitis (skin irritation)
and since it is in the dogbane family it might well contain some cardiac glucosides
(like oleander, dogbane and foxglove)
that would cause problems if eaten.
