Nature's art work!
Nature sometimes has a way of making everything look like it belongs. This is an icicle melting in the above 0 temperatures at Mission Creek in East Kelowna. If you use your imagination you can see a polar bear hunting along an ice flow.
Mission Creek Greenway starts at Lakeshore Dive in Kelowna
and continues east into Gallagher's Canyon, commonly referred to as Scenic
Canyon Park. At this time of the year the sheets of ice over the shallow
sections of the creek bed are still frozen solid, while the center portions
of the ice fields are starting to break up, making themselves ready for
the major thaw of spring. Mission Creek is noted for its high volume of
water during spring run off. Before a dyke system was put into place, the
Mission Creek Delta flooded every spring, causing considerable damage to
surrounding farm land. To remedy this, dykes were built and a flood control
channel were built to divert and control the huge flow, restricting the
worst of the annual damage.
