Susan Jacks (born Susan Pesklevits, 19 August 1948, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a Canadian singersongwriter.
Jacks began her professional career as a regular performer on
the national Canadian television show, Let's Go. She and her husband
to be, Terry Jacks, formed the The Poppy Family which had a number
of hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s. "Which Way You
Goin' Billy?" sold close to 3 million copies worldwide, hitting
No. 1 in Canada and No. 2 in the United States (#1 on the Cash
Box chart). Then in 1973 Susan Jacks divorced her husband, Terry,
and set off on a solo career. She continued to have hits in Canada
with songs including the Juno nominated "Anna Marie",
"You Don't Know What Love Is", "I Thought Of You
Again", "I Want You To Love Me", "Build A
Tower", "Love Has No Pride", and "Memories
Are Made Of You". Her 1980 Canadian hit "All The Tea
In China" was nominated for Canada's Juno Awards that year,
and was from the album Ghosts. The track was included on the 1980
K-tel compilation album, Hit List. In 1982 her album Forever was
released.
In 1977, Jacks met former Saskatchewan Roughriders, Canadian Football
League player Ted Dushinski. They married in 1980 and had a son,
Thad. The couple moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1983 where she
recorded the Juno nominated song, "Tall Dark Stranger".
She became a staff songwriter for a Nashville publishing company
and has had several songs recorded, including one on a Grammy
nominated children's album. She then went on to manage a publishing
company before becoming Executive V.P. and part owner of a telecommunications
company in Nashville. Jacks and her family returned to the Vancouver
area in 2004, and she resumed her performing career. She is also
a consultant for INS Entertainment and works with artists in the
studio as a performance consultant. Her second husband, Ted Dushinski,
died on 24 October 2005 at the age of 61, following a battle with
lung cancer.
Jacks played a homecoming concert in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, on 28 November 2008. A couple of CD releases are expected in 2009. More shows in Canada are being added to her schedule.
