Rock formations at Texas Valley rest area.
Four miles Southeast of this photo is a place called Council Bluffs, where an Apache treaty with Cochise was ratified - October 12, 1872. There are historic markers everywhere indicating the significance of the Apache treaty signing. Little is mentioned however, about the way the bluecoats slaughtered whole villages, burning the Apache's supplies and shooting their horses in an effort to starve them into submission. "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" is an eye opening history of the natives from the first arrival of the white Europeans to the last treaty signings.
