Rubus Ursinus: Black berry
This variety of blackberry seems to grow best on recently cleared land and on burned areas. Sometimes tangled masses of brambles have covered entire clear-cut areas after logging operations have moved on.
The small white flowers appear from May till August, while the first ripened fruit appear by June. The fruit of the blackberries are easily preserved in jellies, jams, or made into wine. Freezing large amounts in plastic bags works well, then pies can be made during the winter months.
