Birds

This female Rufus Hummingbird has to squeeze in between
sessions with the male Hummingbirds who are extremely territorial about
these feeding stations. There are Currently three set up: One inside the
sanctuary gate near Fuller's Slough. Selasphorus Rufus hummingbirds like
to be busy getting nectar from flower shrubs like Rhododendrons, and Himalayan
Blackberry (in blossom) also Poplar tree, and Cottonwood tree catkins. The
female Rufus is green backed, with dull rusty color on sides and at the
base of tail. The male has bright rusty red upper parts and a ruby red throat
patch which shines iridescently at certain angles, or appears dark green
at other angles.
