About 30 kilometers off Highway 3 near Princeton BC - Looking west from the old Tulameen Road at the Shoe Tree - Mid afternoon

Beside Tulameen River, Tulameen BC - August 31, 2006.

Shoe Tree - just outside of the town of Tulameen BC there is an old, dead tree spar overlooking the Tulameen River with dozens of pairs of shoes and boots. The City of Tulameen is located north of Princeton about 16 Km beyond Coalmont BC along Coalmont Road.

The city of Tulameen and Coalmont was started in the late 1800's when coal was discovered in a bare, exposed vein on a ridge above the Tulameen River. Lots of historic buildings in Tulameen, well worth a look around. Some buildings have been left in original condition or simply abandoned, while others have been restored and converted into handsome looking bed and breakfast places. <http://www.tulameenbc.com> Some folks are upset at the way visitors are treating the environment during their stay during the BC Day Long week end for Tulameen Days.

Princeton, BC, once known as Vermilion Forks, is at the confluence of the Tulameen & Similkameen Rivers. The Vermilion Bluffs (203 KB) are on the Trans Canada Trail, a short hike from town. Sometimes we joke that "Princeton is beyond Hope!" meaning Hope, BC, a two-hour drive to the west (but we know that Princeton is a great place to live)!! Highway 3 - Princeton, British Columbia is on the map on Highway 3, the Southern Trans-Provincial, also known as the Crowsnest Highway (see also Crowsnest Highway: Hope to Osoyoos, AllGetAways.com) & yet again (in part) known as the Hope-Princeton Highway - about three-and-one-half hours' drive east of Vancouver, BC, & one-and-one-half hours' drive west of Penticton, BC (home of Ironman Canada).
