This plant is a showy, hairless perennial about 16 inches tall with leaves in whorls of three - flowers with 3 white petals with 3 green sepals beneath. Note the over all purple in the flower petals - color variation (usually white petals) due to age of the plant. Found in wet to moist woods, stream banks and shaded open areas.
