Butterfly

Botanical Glossary - Home

I was surprised to find this colorful butterfly perched upon a Himalayan Blackberry bush leaf as I road out to Iona Park along Ferguson Road. It is a medium sized butterfly with black forward wing tips, orange-red to vermilion bars across the forward wings to closely match the border of the hind wing. The color on forward an hind wings next to the body, closely resemble fuzzy chocolate, and meet the orange bars and border. This species emigrates north in Spring and there is evidence that suggests it will attempt to return south for warmer climate.
