Tallships - Victoria BC

The Pacific Swift a 111 foot Square Topsail Schooner and the Niña unfurls their sails at the beginning of the Tallship Parade in and around Victoria Harbor. The Pacific Swift is a two-masted sailboat built by S.A.L.T.S. as a working exhibit at Expo 86 in Vancouver BC. The Pacific Swift is now used exclusively for young people's training voyages in the port of Victoria BC.
The Niña is a 68 foot long replica of the ship Columbus sailed during his three Atlantic Ocean crossings in the late 1400s. The ship was lost in 1501 and has been replicated in 1991. It's homeport is the Grand Cayman and is hailed as a floating museum visiting ports all over the coast of United States and Canada.
Victoria Harbor entrance Seen from the media boat on June 26, 2008. Although the weather looked threatening enough with overcast skies and strong winds, at least the rain did not fall for the two dozen tallships sailing outside Victoria Harbor on the west coast of BC during the Tallship Festival held in Victoria BC.
