Alistair Brownlee GBR

A cold gray day in Vancouver Alistair Brownlee keeps well into the lead on his second lap during the running portion at the Under 23 World Championship Triathlon at English Bay, West End Downtown Vancouver - June 08, 2008. Alistair seemed in no particular hurry or stress during the swim portion of the Triathlon and in the transition area between swimming and cycling, in fact Brownlee quietly and methodically sat down to put on his cycling shoes before heading off to do 40 km bike.

The weather in English Bay is cold and rainy for the Men's Under 23 Triathlon event in Vancouver, challenging each contestant with below normal water temperature for the swim portion, and wet race course and drizzle rain for the bike and running portions alike. As it was, there were no problems or accidents throughout the race but contestants from warmer parts of the world must have suffered I think.

Alistair Brownlee from Leeds won the Under 23 World Championships as he dominated the international field amidst wet conditions, coasting to the finish line draped in the Yorkshire white rose flag.

The twenty year old, whose brother Jonathan took bronze in the junior men's race on Thursday, finished third at the Madrid BG Triathlon World Cup a fortnight ago to meet British Triathlon's Olympic Selection Criteria.

The Brownlees are the first brothers in history to medal at the same triathlon world championships. Brownlee also becomes just the second triathlete in ITU history to win both junior and under 23 world titles.
